The latest in innovative, stylish and powerful Lexus design has recently been on display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, US, demonstrating just what the manufacturer can achieve when it comes to sports models.
Lexus’ new RC F was out on the brand’s stand, presented in an electric blue colour – perhaps demonstrating its potential lightning speed.
The car had already been rolled out at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013, but it’s the first time that motoring maniacs in the US were able to gaze upon the model.
Under the bonnet is a ferocious 5.0-litre V8 engine, with maximum output capable of achieving above 450bhp – making it the most powerful road going car the company has ever produced.
Lexus has designed the car to deal with this unprecedented power. It has added wider wheels and tyres, an active rear wing, air scoops, cooling ducts and carbon fibre components to ensure the model is stable in high speeds.
All this combines to achieve what Lexus is describing as “functional beauty” when discussing the overall design.
Chief engineer of the RC F Yukihiko Yaguchi said that each element of the car has been carefully designed in order to improve performance as much as possible.
“Unique air outlets in the bonnet and rear section of the front wings contribute to optimum engine cooling and handling stability. They create a powerful look that immediately conveys the expectation of a dynamic driving experience,” he said.
Of course, the new Lexus features the manufacturer’s newly designed signature front grille, exposing the teeth of the vehicle to give a snarling, menacing look.
Squinted, ‘L’ motif headlights are also featured either side in order to further this image of mean.
In comparison to the standard RC model, the F version has a slightly higher bonnet, in order to create a more powerful profile and to truly reflect the image of the F models.
Designers have also included ducts under the front bumper and wings, in addition to aerodynamic stabilising fins to give it that true thoroughbred sportscar image.
However, the designers have not just focused on how the car looks from the outset.
When climbing into the vehicle, drivers will be welcomed by a truly sporty cockpit, with newly designed meters, steering wheel, seats, trim detailing and pedals.
A large central dial takes up the focal point of the instrument panel, with the feature adapting to suit the specific driving modes, depending on which of the four is selected.
Furthermore, Lexus has endeavoured to increase comfort as much as possible in the models, with the steering wheel offering improved grip in addition to optimum shift paddle locations, while high-back seats are another improved feature.
