Worldwide driving sensation and King of the Hoonigans, Ken Block came to Santa Pod and he brought some friends! Along for the ride were drift legend Vaughn Gittin Jr, British rallycrosser Liam Doran and the massive spectacle that is the Gymkhana Grid roadshow.
Two entrants from each of the 4 heats held in France, Germany, Holland and the UK came together in Northamptonshire to battle it out for a chance to drive head to head with either Block or Gittin.
Just what is Gymkhana Grid? I’ll let the guys themselves explain in this understated public information film.
After a trip to Top Gear Live on Friday, Ken himself was on site all weekend before having to leave earlier than planned on Sunday to catch a Superstorm Sandy-dodging flight to Las Vegas.
And of course number 43 was there too, making noise and smoke in spades.
Doran killed his share of tyres too in his Rallycross DS3.
The rear wheel drive final between Luke Woodham in a Nissan Silvia and Remmo Niezen’s Falken liveried BMW was a smokey affair. I’ve seen a few burnouts in my time but between these two, visibility was down to about 2 feet!
They even out-smoked the drifting truck!
Remmo took the win and went onto battle Gittin in his mighty Mustang
And to finish this report, a little 4 wheeled eye candy:
Luke Woodham’s 2nd place S14
RWD classing winner Remmo Niezen’s BMW E30 M3
Liam Doran’s potent little DS3
Vaughn Gittin’s Ford Mustang RTR (Ready To Rock)
And the car that drew the most attention, Number 43, Ken Block’s Ford Fiesta
