Jaguar Land Rover has announced the launch of its new Jaguar Heritage Racing team, which will be taking part in motorsport events across the globe in 2012.
Events including the Mille Miglia, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and each round of the E-type challenge in the UK are set to see the new team in full flow, with Jaguar to highlight its racing heritage and importance to the sport by reviving the team, which has not seen action since 1956.
Set to feature C-type and D-type models, Jaguar Heritage Racing will also be performing at circuits including Goodwood and the German Nurburgring.
Jaguar Land Rover global head of communications Frank Klaas commented: “The Nurburgring Nordschleife presents a unique automotive challenge that Jaguar’s development team continually subject our current and future models to in order to perfect their attributes of quality, durability and dynamic precision.
“To also see historic works Jaguars in competitive action at the Nurburgring this year will be fascinating.”
All responsibilities for race-day activities will fall to JD Classics based in Maldon, Essex, with Derek Hood, managing director of the firm, noting it is an honour to be representing the historic importance of the Jaguar brand at these global events.
He added that this is a responsibility the company is all too happy to take on, continuing the legacy of these fine vehicles and offering audiences the chance to see classic Jaguars performing against their contemporaries.
Fans of classic Jaguars could be in for a treat at this year’s Silverstone Classic event, with the return of the Jaguar E-type Challenge in 2012.
As part of the manufacturer’s celebrations of 50 years of the iconic brand, the Challenge is to be bigger than ever and will see two heats taking place on both the Saturday and Sunday of the event, featuring more than 50 classic E-types.
