Fans of classic motor racing were in for a treat at this year’s Goodwood Revival and the crowds have not been disappointed.
Harking back to some of the glory days of motor sport, the festival focuses solely on the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and this year was no different, with the event providing a showcase of classic vehicles which took to the iconic track during its operation between 1948 and 1966.
Running last weekend from September 14th to 16th at the historic Goodwood circuit just outside Chichester, visitors were treated to an array of on-track entertainment, as well as a host of exhibits and showpieces.
Classic single-seater racing was seen in the Richmond and Gordon Trophy, Goodwood Trophy, Glover Trophy and Chichester Cup, while a variety of vehicles that took to the circuit during its heyday were showcased in the Whitsun, Fordwater, Brooklands and Sussex trophy events.
Meanwhile, a host of famous faces were to be seen at the Revival this year, including Red Bull Formula 1 team manager Christian Horner, touring car champion and commentator Tim Harvey, Le Mans legend Derek Bell, 1970s F1 driver Arturo Merzario, Pink Floyd drummer and avid car enthusiast Nick Mason and many more.
With more than 130,000 spectators attending during the course of the weekend, the 14th annual Goodwood Revival certainly lived up to its billing as one of the most popular classic sports car events in the UK.
Maserati was a key player at the event this year, being a significant corporate sponsor and seeing plenty of on-track action. In total, 23 Maserati models were entered into the weekend’s various races, with Duncan Ricketts’ Maserati Tipo 26 setting the fastest lap in the Brooklands Trophy.
Dates for next year’s Goodwood Revival are yet to be confirmed, but what is clear from the massive crowds at this year’s show is that the UK public continues to have a significant appetite for classic motor racing.
