Ferrari has announced that it achieved record sales and profits during the first half of the year.

The Italian supercar manufacturer reported net profits of €100.8 million (£80 million) for the six-month period, up ten per cent on the corresponding period of 2011.

Revenues increased by 11.9 per cent to €1.2 billion, with Ferrari delivering a total of 3,664 cars to dealers.

Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo described the results as "reward for our constant and significant investment in technological innovation".

He added: "Over the coming months, we will be focusing hard on a revolutionary new road car and on the last races in the Formula One world championship."

Ferrari's latest model, the F12berlinetta, goes on sale this month and will replace the 599 GTB.

With a top speed of 211 mph and acceleration of zero to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds, it is the company's fastest ever road car.
