Sports car and luxury vehicle manufacturer Morgan is set to announce its new low-emission electric vehicle at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show, which gets underway tomorrow (March 8th).
Running for ten days in total, the showpiece motoring event will see the release of the new Morgan Plus E, following collaboration by the vehicle developer and partners including technology specialists Zytek and Radshape.
Morgan operations director Steve Morris commented: "The project is a true collaboration aimed at delivering as much driving pleasure as possible in a zero emissions vehicle.
"It worked really well, with aluminium fabrication specialist Radshape paying particular attention to retaining chassis stiffness and weight distribution to ensure excellent dynamics and ride quality."
Features of the new Plus E model include zero emissions, while being capable of delivering 94 bhp and 300 Nm of torque with its Zytek 70kW electric engine.
Mr Morris added the engineers have even developed a new multi-speed transmission, which allows the engine to spend more time operating in its "sweet spot, where it uses energy more efficiently".
Developed using £100,000 funding from the government as part of its Niche Vehicle Network Programme, the Plus E has formed part of ongoing efforts to boost the development and commercialisation of new low-carbon vehicle technologies in the UK and to boost their uptake and profile among the general public.
Founded in 1905, the Morgan Motor Company has been synonymous with luxury and prestige motor vehicles for more than a century, while also blazing a trail of innovation and cutting-edge research in the field of automotive endeavour.
This ethos began with the Morgan Three-Wheeler – one of the most popular models for the firm in its early years – and later continued with the release of numerous iconic cars by the company, including the Plus Four, Plus 8 and its Aero Coupe and Aero SuperSports models.
