Proof that social networking sites can have a positive effect was revealed this week as the CarFest publicity machine announced that there will be a second CarFest this year at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. This followed a successful Twitter campaign by car fans based in the north.

Chris Evans announced the good news on his Radio 2 show this week. The CarFest show will take place on September 8th and the 9th.  And if the weather is a bit better than it has been of late – in fact, make that a lot better – the line-up looks set to make the event a great couple of days featuring a selection of modern as well as classic supercars – including petrolhead Chris Evans’ fine array of Ferraris.

The Hill Climb, features cars climbing up a hill in groups of 7, and will feature Chris’s Magnificent 7 Ferraris followed by European Supercars, US Supercars, Far East Supercars, Historic F1s plus Vintage and much more.

Silverstone Auctions will take the helm for the auctions at CarFest North with a Pride & Joy sale taking pride of place on the Saturday. A great idea I reckon, for the plan here is that the car prices will range from a fairly affordable £5,000 right up to a not-so-affordable (unless you’re Chris Evans), £25,000.

But if that still sounds a little small-time for you, then hang around till the Sunday where the Sunday Best Sale will offer pristine automotive examples from £25,000 upwards.

But a car show is nothing without the core traditional walk-arounds, and CarFest North will offer enough dazzling display categories to keep everyone happy.  Of course, if you’re brave enough, you can bring your own for showing as well. CarFest say that in keeping with the Magnificent 7 theme, there will be 7 groups of 7 car marques displaying their 7 best vehicles.

Classic & Sports Car magazine say they are celebrating their 30th anniversary by showing some pioneering classic cars as well as some classic curiosities like the Lamborghini Miura, reckoned to be the first supercar. But surely the ‘must see’ here will be the Jaguar XKSS – only 16 were ever sold giving it a staggering price tag of around £3 million. Let’s hope no-one manages to drive this one out of the arena with no-one noticing, though I’m sure that security will have learned a lot since JapSpeed’s Subaru Impreza drifted out of the Performance Vauxhall Show last June.

Rather interestingly for all you home tinkerers, Practical Classics magazine will be attempting to complete a restoration project by Sunday 3pm. Sounds like something worth popping back to throughout the weekend I think.

The CarFest North show is geared towards being family-friendly and the site provides camping facilities and the obligatory food options. The evening entertainment is provided by (among others) Texas, Paloma Faith and The Counterfeit Stones on the Saturday and Razorlight, The Magic Numbers and Bootleg Beatles playing on the Sunday evening.

Tickets go on sale on May 4th and more information can be found at carfestnorth.org.
