BMW has released new details of its latest member of the M4 family, with the convertible arriving soon after the unveiling of the BMW M3 Saloon and the M4 Coupe.

New BMW M4 Convertible feature

The M4 Convertible will be equipped with a 431hp TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 550 Nm of torque.

This is the same engine found in the other two recent releases, but this model offers a choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed M Double clutch transmission.

It can hit an impressive top speed of 155mph and is able to sprint from zero to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds or 4.4 seconds with the latter transmission option.

This high performance is achieved by the minimising of weight, the carefully crafted body for improved aerodynamics, advanced race-derived chassis tuning and electronic driver assist technologies.

Furthermore, there is a need for special cooling systems to deal with this increased performance, so the M4 Convertible comes with an indirect intercooler to maximise charge pressure and engine output.

Other coolers help to supplement the main radiator while an electric pump cools the turbocharger when the machine is at rest.

Despite the addition of these features, the M4 Convertible is approximately 60kg lighter than the outgoing M3 version.

While the performance has been increased, BMW has worked to ensure this has no greater impact on the carbon emissions it produces. In fact, it has actually improved the levels. The model emits just 213g/km of CO2 for 31 mpg, while the M Double Clutch Transmission improves this further to 32.5mpg and 203g/km of CO2.
