The new BMW 4 Series is set to make its international debut at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January and is likely to wow all those in attendance.
Featuring a stunning new aesthetic and with a sportier and more aggressive style, the 4 Series has been lowered by 67 mm from its previous incarnation, while at the same time the design team has extended the body to give a stronger profile.
These changes may not seem like much, but in reality, they give the new 4 Series a much more focused style, ensuring the model sits well inside its own niche alongside other vehicles in the BMW range, such as the 3 Series and M3.
In addition, the design team at the German manufacturer has focused on improving efficiency and the green credentials of the new 4 Series, with a number of innovative features such as wheel arch air vents and intakes in the bumper.
BMW designer Adrian van Hooydonk told Piston Heads: “Efficient Dynamics can be an abstract notion, so we as designers can give it form, and our contribution to the need to reduce CO2 is in aerodynamics.”
All this means the vehicle cuts through the air more easily, reducing the need for fuel consumption and thereby cutting emissions also.
Earlier this month, the new BMW i3 coupe concept made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The model is 100 per cent electric, powered by an onboard lithium-ion battery unit, but despite this it still delivers an impressive 170 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, meaning it is no slouch when it comes to performance.
In addition, the i3 coupe sends the message that electric cars are no longer a niche market, but with the launch of the i3 are set to become a mainstay of the luxury fleet sector in the years to come.
