Bentley is well known for its cars making a grand entrance – whether that is at motor shows or simply just driving up to any event.

Bentley Feature

The latest offering, the Continental GT V8 S, is sure to do just that, when it is put on display for its US debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

According to Bentley, the model is the most stylish, luxury grand tourer currently available. It is also expected to feature alongside two other quality Bentley blockbusters, including the fastest four-door luxury saloon the Flying Spur and the absolute top-of-the-line model, the Mulsanne.

The manufacturer are currently riding on the positive wave brought by the news it has seen a record year when it comes to global deliveries – seeing a 19 per cent increase to send total sales to 10,120 cars.

It is the brand’s fourth consecutive year of growth, with the American market certainly helping this position. Now, the country is going to be treated to its first look at the GT V8 S.

Chairman and chief executive of Bentley Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber said: “The GT V8 S is a car for our V8 customers who want more. It is more agile, with a lower and uprated suspension, faster, with more power and more distinctive with its signature S styling and a unique V8 S soundtrack.”

He expressed his delight at bringing the model to the US for the best first time, as the company hopes to further boost its presence in the Americas.

So what will the latest in Bentley design offer those who live Stateside?

Well, for those in the warmer climes of the country, a top-down version is certainly set to be a big hit.

That’s not to say the coupe version won’t be just as successful, with both models offering drivers a muscular 4-litre twin-turbo V8 powertrain, creating 521 bhp at 6,000 rev/min, in addition to torque of 680Nm at just 1,700 rev/min.

Twinned to an 8-speed automatic transmission, it is all set to deliver quality performance, incredible acceleration and impressively smooth handling despite its aggressive nature.

The car can complete a 0-60mph sprint in as little as 4.3 seconds and will eventually hit a top-speed of 192mph.

Of course, it’s not just about the speed with the Bentley, oh no, it’s also about the class and refinement. This goes for every single model in its offering.

The GT V8 S comes with interior features such as leather seats and trim, as well as the use of wood for that extra sense of quality and expert craftsmanship.

This is also seen in the Flying Spur variation, with the more athletic car coming with a range of technologies too – including a hand held touch screen remote in the rear cabin, for passengers to control the comfort of their seat to the volume of the in-car entertainment.

Optional rear-seat entertainment can also be included, in the form of two 10″ LCD screens complete with DVD players and wireless headphones. Of course, Bentley is looking ahead too, with the option of WI-Fi connectivity also present in the car.

The Mulsanne also includes additions to vastly improve comfort, such as cossetting headrests, comfortable footrests and loose cushions.

The US has only got a taste of what Bentley has to offer. In the coming years, the brand is looking for even more presence in the land of the free.
