Performance vehicle manufacturer Aston Martin has announced an updated specification for its Rapide S model, with the luxury GT having been redesigned and engineered as it attempts to retake its position as the world’s most desirable four-seat sports car.
Fitted with a new naturally-aspirated AM11 6.0-litre V12 engine, the vehicle is capable of 620 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm and accelerates from zero to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds – shaving 0.3 seconds off its old time.
Meanwhile, its top speed of 190 mph belies a considerable focus on efficiency and emissions by the designers, with the new Rapide S featuring a seven per cent reduction in CO2 output to 332 g/km and improved combined fuel economy of 19.9 mpg.
Aston Martin chief executive officer Dr Ulrich Bez said: “The Rapide S is to me, without doubt, the most beautiful four-door sports car on the market today. This is, very clearly, the power of luxury in action.
“The car’s stunning visual appeal is now matched by a much more powerful and yet more efficient engine – our exceptional new AM11 V12 – which increases massively both the excitement and performance potential of the Rapide S.”
Improved transmission calibration, ADS refinement, braking capability and engine output optimisation will surely help to make the model stand out from its competitors, head of product development at Aston Martin Ian Minards added.
The marque is also celebrating a major landmark this month, with Aston Martin having been founded 100 years ago this year.
A number of high-profile events have been planned to commemorate this key milestone, with Aston Martin to hold a Centenary Week event at its Gaydon headquarters from July 15th to 21st, while the Aston Martin Heritage Trust Walter Hayes Memorial Lecture took place on January 15th in London.
It saw special guest actor Sir John Standing as Lionel Martin, telling the story of his early days and his experience of making the first Aston Martin in 1913.
