Corvette has unveiled its new 2014 Stingray at this month's North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that is taking place in Detroit.
Featuring a seven-speed manual transmission or six-speed paddle shift, the 2014 Stingray is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine delivered 450 bhp.
This means it is capable of acceleration from nought to 60 mph in under four seconds and achieves more than 1G in cornering grip, ensuring the driver remains in full control even with this mammoth power at his fingertips.
"Like the '63 Sting Ray, the best Corvettes embodied performance leadership, delivering cutting-edge technologies, breathtaking design and awe-inspiring driving experiences," said General Motors (GM) North America president Mark Reuss.
"The all-new Corvette goes farther than ever, thanks to today's advancements in design, technology and engineering."
Other new features that help to set the 2014 Stingray apart from its rivals include a luxury interior, complete with carbon fibre, hand-crafted leather upholstery and two new seat choices – each with a lightweight aluminium frame to reduce the car's overall weight.
Advanced driver technologies including the manufacturer's new Drive Mode Selector also mean buyers will be able to tailor the responsiveness, handling and performance of the vehicle to suit their driving style and the conditions they face when out on the road with even greater ease than ever before.
Set to go on sale in the third quarter of 2013, the model is to be manufactured at GM's newly upgraded Bowling Green facility in Kentucky, with the premises having seen investment of $131 million (£81.9 million) in preparation for the launch of the 2014 design.
Other top talking points at this year's NAIAS include the debut of Maserati's new Quattroporte moel, with the sixth generation of the vehicle set to become the manufacturer's new flagship brand.
It offers excellent performance for buyers, including acceleration from zero to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph.
