Rolls-Royce has revealed an exclusive Droptail named La Rose Noire. Rolls says that the model’s colour scheme is inspired by the velvety Black Baccara rose, which exudes rich dark reds fading into almost black, and is a flower favourited by the mother of the commissioning family – Rolls looks to have got the colours impressively spot on.

More importantly perhaps, is that this is a 2-seater Droptail, which resonates with the manufacturer’s style from many years before.

The Rolls Droptail looks beautiful and is fittingly described as the pinnacle of company’s esteemed in-house coachbuilding.

To get to this point, Rolls undertook a collaboration with four clients that lasted four years to enable four exclusive Droptails to be built.

Previously, Rolls-Royce has inspired us with the regal and officious Sweptail in 2017 and then the luxury Boat Tail a couple of years ago.

The pearlescent colours used for the exterior are the red of a colour called True Love mixed with a darker tone called Mystery, and the result is that La Rose Noire appears to alter its colour in much the same way as the Black Baccara rose.

Matching the striking paintwork, the car features brightwork named Hydroshade which is applied through chrome electrolyte being applied to the chrome plating process.

The process is repeated on select items within the interior too.

A Smaller Sportier Rolls-Royce

The Droptail has a slightly sportier feel than you might expect for a Rolls-Royce, partly due to the car being 5.3 metres long – slightly smaller than most of what RR offers for sale, and something which does make it appear more agile.

The roof is a low-profile removable hard top and is made from carbon-fibre and features electrochromic tinted glass that can be controlled via an interior button.

Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail – Eye Catching Coupé Or Roadster?

The feel that Rolls wanted to convey was that the Droptail can be considered a fully-fledged coupé on one hand, as well as the roadster that really catches our eye.

The roof is not automatic though and will add to that ‘sporty feel’ when you decide to remove or reinstall it.

The 22-inch wheels are coloured in Mystery paint, so while initially appearing as black, will offer up a shimmer of red dependant on the light.

While Mystery paint covers each wheel, some diamond milling reveals subtle, highly polished accents.

The sporty feel is extended to what sits under the bonnet; the Rolls Droptail gets a twin-turbo 6.75-litre V12, tweaked to give the car an additional extra 30bhp.

Inside, the car is pure luxury, with the design allowing the infotainment control area to be covered by an armrest when not in use, giving the interior a relaxed and uncluttered feel.

The colour scheme is kept for the interior along with plenty of wood and some carbon-fibre.

1,603 Hand-crafted Wood Pieces

The wood comprises of 1,603 individual hand-finished pieces all fitted by hand, with 533 red coloured pieces to indicate randomly scattered rose petals.

Take a look at what sits at the rear of the two seats and the dash – it’s a perfect combination of old style with modern touches.

Rolls-Royce doesn’t like to reveal the cost of their coachbuilt items, so let’s ignore that aspect and just enjoy what we can see here.
