But while the heatwave will pass (we hope), the Morgan Midsummer Coupé is here to stay, in extremely limited numbers.Morgan has taken its gorgeous, Pininfarina-designed Midsummer roadster and given it a fixed head, and the result is one of the loveliest, and rarest, things the little Malvern firm has ever made.Morgan Midsummer Coupéat a glanceDesigned byMorgan, with PininfarinaBased onThe Midsummer roadster (CX-generation bonded-aluminium platform)BodyBonded aluminium over a traditional ash frame, with a glass canopy roofEngine3.0-litre BMW turbocharged straight-sixPowerNot officially confirmed; expect up to 402bhp (Supersport 400 spec)ProductionJust nine cars (ten including the founding commission)PriceNot announced; expected to top £250,000Last fixed-roof MorganThe Aero 8, which ended in 2015What Is the Midsummer Coupé?That teardrop tail and split-spine roof read beautifully from behind.A quick recap, in case you missed the original. The Midsummer was a barchetta, an open-topped, roofless sports car, and Morgan’s first collaboration with the legendary Italian design house Pininfarina; the two firms famously hatched the idea over a drink in a pub back in 2022. It arrived in 2024, limited to 50 cars, all of them spoken for before the price was even announced. The Coupé came about in the most Morgan way imaginable. One of those 50 owners simply asked whether they could have theirs with a roof. Eight more orders followed almost immediately, and a new limited edition was born.Morgan is at pains to say this is not merely a Midsummer with a lid bolted on, and for once the marketing is right: the Coupé gets dramatically different proportions and, the firm reckons, a stronger presence than many modern supercars.Flowing fenders, a single round tail light and those glorious wire wheels. That Morgan Midsummer Coupé Glass RoofEvery dial and switch is a small act of craftsmanship. The roof is the whole story, and it is beautifully judged. From certain angles the Coupé looks snug, almost enclosed, but walk around it and the illusion breaks: the top is essentially a full glass canopy, split down the middle by a slender stainless-steel spine that runs the entire length of the car, front to tail. Inside, that means light pours in, and the cabin keeps much of the airy, open feeling that made the roadster so special, right down to a U-shaped rear window that nods to the coupés of the 1940s.The doors are taller, too, with their handles cleverly hidden in the beltline to keep the profile clean. This is Morgan’s first fixed-roof car since the Aero 8 bowed out in 2015, and it has been worth the wait.Wood, circular dials and a glass roof overhead: like an aircraft cockpit for the road.BMW Power and a Stiffer BodyStraight from behind, that stainless spine splits the glass roof clean in two.Mechanically, the Coupé shares its bones with the roadster and the Plus Six beneath it: Morgan’s bonded-aluminium CX platform, wrapped, in true Morgan fashion, around a traditional ash wood frame. Power comes from BMW’s familiar turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six. Morgan has coyly declined to quote an exact figure, but the same engine in the related Supersport 400 makes 402bhp and 369lb ft, so expect something in that region rather than the 335bhp of the original roadster.More interesting than outright power is rigidity. Thanks to billet-machined aluminium A-pillars and bonded structural glazing, Morgan says the Coupé is actually stiffer than its latest Supersport, and yet only around 2.5% heavier than a hard-topped Supersport. Adding a roof usually costs you either weight or stiffness. Here it has quietly improved both.Inside: Wood, Light and Bespoke EverythingDiamond-quilted cream leather, wood and metal: every commission is trimmed to order.Inside, it is exactly as special as the outside promises. There is a properly retro dashboard with circular dials, and wood everywhere, teak on the prototype’s central roof spar, though as with everything here you can specify whatever timber you like. With glass overhead and those deep side windows, it feels almost like sitting in an aircraft cockpit.A profile worth framing: the Coupé’s lines in clean studio light.Being a Morgan coachbuilt special, every car will be individually commissioned and finished in-house, which is another way of saying no two will be quite alike, right down to a set of 19-inch forged wheels that Morgan calls its most intricate design yet. As a proper grand tourer, the Coupé also gains climate control, better luggage space and full weather sealing, so unlike the roadster you can actually use it when the famous British summer inevitably reverts to type.Look up, and the roof reveals itself: a glass canopy split by a wood spine.Metal shifter, wood console, physical buttons: no screens in sight. How Many, and How Much? So, the hard part. The original Midsummer roadster was limited to 50 and cost north of £200,000. The Coupé is rarer still: Morgan will build just nine (ten, if you count the founding commission), each one a bespoke creation, and it marks the end of the Pininfarina Midsummer line.Pricing has not been confirmed, but it is widely expected to sail past £250,000 before you start ticking option boxes. Given there are only nine to go round, that will not put anyone off. If you have to ask, and so on.Built for exactly this: unhurried miles as the sun goes down.Morgan Midsummer Coupé: Your Questions AnsweredWhat is the Morgan Midsummer Coupé?
