A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
Volkswagen has joined the ways of the Force in their new marketing campaign for the all-new VW ID. Buzz.
The new “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series is generating a lot of hype for a range of Star Wars fans, from those that loved the original trilogy in the 70s and early 80s, to those who enjoyed the sequel trilogy that was released from 2015 – 2019. VW, a brand that is advertising their electric vehicles more with each passing day, has partnered up with Disney to bring the sands of Tattoine and the ID. Buzz together through a video ad and various other marketing mediums.
The leading actor of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Ewan McGregor, is also part of the deal and has joined VW as a brand ambassador. Ewan McGregor can now be spotted all over the marketing of the new ID. Buzz which is a great fit for the brand, not only because he’s a charitable person who’s interested in doing right by the world but also because he’s a very well-liked celeb in general.
Ewan is also known for converting his classic 1950s VW Beetle to all-electric and also for travelling the world on his electric custom Harley Davidson in his series “Long Way Up”. Fans that know him from his role as Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel trilogy will also know him as one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise, being immortalised by various movie quotes that have been shared in memes countless times.
Fans of both the all-electric ID. Buzz campervan and the new Obi-Wan series have been waiting a long time to hear their calls answered to. The ID. Buzz offers the joys of owning a campervan, including the vast interior space and versatility, along with an all-new electric drivetrain capable of driving over 300 miles on a single charge.
Another bonus about the campervan going all-electric is that the lack of an engine, gearbox, transmission and exhaust system allows for the ID. Buzz to be roomier than a conventional combustion-powered campervan ever could be. Pair that with all the tech and the cheery design featuring a smiling face, it’s no wonder why R2-D2 made friends with the Buzz in the short clip.
In one move, VW have infused their brand with Ewan McGregor and the magic of Star Wars, what’s not to like?
