Clearly Volkswagen thought as much as the company has teamed up with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring to life one of the game’s GTI Roadsters.Volkswagen unveiled the concept design, based on the GTI Roadster from Gran Turismo 6, on May 26th and has since taken a real life version of it to the Woerthersee GTI meeting in Austria. The GTI Roadster was created by three designers at Volkswagen, Malte Hammerbeck, Domen Rucigaj and Guillermo Mignot, who won a competition to create a vehicle that would celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo game.Their winning design was selected by the creator of the Gran Turismo series at Sony Computer Entertainment, Kazunori Yamauchi, as well as head of design at Volkswagen Klaus Bischoff.The two-seater GTI Roadster draws inspiration from the Design Vision GTI, which featured at Woerthersee last year, but is made to be more extreme. It has a particularly short wheelbase at 2,494 mm, which is shorter than that of the Design Vision GTI and 137 mm shorter than a production Golf.Its proportions are particularly striking; it is a mere 1,090 mm in height but also 1,894 mm in width and 4,158 mm in length.The car is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 biturbo engine, which can produce 503 PS and maximum torque of 560 Nm between 4,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm. Yet it can still reach 500 Nm or so of torque from 2,000 rpm onwards.This power is delivered through a seven speed DSG gearbox as well as 4MOTION four-wheel drive.
