The updated Polestar 2 electric saloon is set to arrive later this year with many exciting changes. Perhaps the most notable of these is the move to a rear-wheel-drive layout, which will bring increased efficiency and range to the car. This change has also led to improved comfort and handling, while still maintaining the same “DNA” of the original model.

In addition to the improved drivetrain, the 2 also boasts increased power, performance and range. The dual-motor version, for example, now has a rear-biased torque split that “increases driving pleasure and performance,” and can go from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. The single-motor version, meanwhile, has a new permanent-magnet motor that provides a significant increase in power and torque, allowing it to go from 0-62mph in a claimed 6.2 seconds.

The updated 2 also comes with new batteries, which offer a considerable increase in range. The long-range dual-motor variant, for example, can now go up to 368 miles on a single charge, while the long-range single-motor variant can go up to 395 miles. Additionally, the car can now charge at rates of up to 205kW, a 55kW improvement.

On the outside, the 2 features a refreshed front end that brings it in line with the upcoming Polestar 3 SUV. This includes the addition of Polestar’s Smartzone, which hosts active-safety features such as the front-facing camera and mid-range radar.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said, “With the new-model-year Polestar 2, we went below the surface and upgraded substantial-tech and mechanical components of the electric drivetrain.” The updated 2 is available to order now, with the first deliveries expected in the third quarter of 2023. Prices for the single-motor model start at £44,950, while the dual-motor long-range model starts at £52,950.
