When it wasrevealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of that year, it wasannounced as the world\u2019s first electric supercar.Eight years on and the idea of electric sports cars that can compete with their petrol-powered kin are not so rare anymore. So where does this leave Rimac in the great scheme of things?The answer to that is in thesame field – Rimac are still innovating and going strong. The Rimac C_Two electricvehicle is the company\u2019s follow up to the Concept One, and is designed toattain Level 4 autonomy – and with that in mind, the claimed tech specs arepretty impressive too.Four motors, with a maximum of 1,700lb ft torque and 1,887bhp, power the C_Two. With a dedicated 2-speed gearbox just for the rear wheels and a single-speed transmission for the front, Rimac is clearly continuing to produce cars based on their own rulebook. This configuration just might be able to produce a 0-62mph in 1.97 seconds \u2013 though how exhilarating that would feel is a moot point; more uncomfortable than exhilarating I\u2019d wager! As a bonus, 0-100mph could theoretically be achieved in just 4.3 seconds.Being able to achieve thecapability of Level 4 autonomy (Level 4 is the rather futuristic levelconsidered to be \u2018fully\u2019 autonomous driving. BMW state in their Level 4 descriptionthat the driver would \u2018be able to sleep temporarily\u2019) requires a great degreeof sophistication – a level of sophistication that requires some unusual thingsto be added to a hypercar:The Rimac C_Two features a laser-powered LiDAR, 6 radar devices, 8 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.We first caught a glimpse ofthe impressive C_Two hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show last year. Followingthis, Rimac later revealed that they are using an extremely powerful computerto help design the C_Two. The Rijeka University-based 7000-core BURAsupercomputer was built to conduct multidisciplinary science research, so a bitof car design shouldn\u2019t heat it up too much. BURA\u2019s job is to help withaerodynamics among other things, where it can calculate the flow of air over 70million separate sectors.Cost and release dates remain unknown at this juncture, but the figures provided suggest that this may prove to be one of the fastest cars ever produced.
