Peugeot is currently undergoing a significant revamp, which includes a new design direction, an updated logo, and bullish electrification plans. As part of this, the 508 large hatchbacks and its SW estate sibling have undergone a round of updates to keep them competitive until potential all-electric replacements arrive in the second half of the decade.

The updated styling of the 508 is evolutionary, taking inspiration from the 408 fastbacks. The new radiator grille blends into the bodywork and headlights, with Peugeot’s new crest logo front and centre. The matrix LED headlights have three fang-like running light strips that extend into the bumper, while the taillights have been restyled with a claw-like design. The exterior has been subtly tweaked, including a new Peugeot script at the back that replaces the previous lion badge. The updated 508 comes in seven exterior paint finishes, including three new colours.

Inside, Peugeot has upgraded the infotainment system, which now runs the company’s newest i-Connect Advanced software. The 10-inch screen mounted in the dashboard is customisable with widgets and shortcuts and includes a TomTom-connected navigation system and an “Okay Peugeot” voice assistant. The general cabin architecture remains unchanged from the previous 508, with a set of piano-style shortcut keys beneath the screen. Peugeot’s i-Cockpit layout is still present, featuring a small steering wheel below a 12-inch digital gauge cluster.

The updated 508 and 508 SW estates offer boot capacities of 487 and 530 litres, respectively. Folding the rear seats in the 508 SW boosts this to a cavernous 1,780 litres.

The model line-up for the face-lifted 508 has been simplified, launching in Allure, GT, or Peugeot Sport Engineered specifications. The high-performance PSE features a 355bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain built around a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The Allure and GT versions of the 508 come with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid units, with engine options including a 1.2-litre petrol unit and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel motor.

The face-lifted 508 offers a range of driver assist systems, including blind spot monitoring, night vision, parking cameras, and adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function. Prices for the new 508 have not yet been outlined by Peugeot, but a small increase over the outgoing car’s £33,945 starting price is expected when it goes on sale later this year.
