The Luxurious David Beckham Maserati MC20 Fuoriserie Edition

The combination of Maserati and David Beckham at Christmas is a perfect, luxurious and sumptuous match for this time of year; it’s like a seasonal aftershave advert that draws the cash from your purse or wallet with an advert featuring a much-loved tier-one actor – all shot on black and white 35mm film of course…

Maserati has its own personalisation programme called Fuoriserie, and it’s this particular wing of Maserati that has combined with the iconic football legend to give us the MC20 Fuoriserie Edition. The design features a combination of matt and gloss surfaces and a brave colour palette of pink and black. The colours, which reflect the Miami sunsets and the subsequent nightlife that follows each sunset, were chosen as Inter Miami play in a combination of light pink and black. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida based club is of course part owned by David Beckham – and the most followed man on Instagram in 2020 is also a Global Ambassador for Maserati.

The man himself travelled to Modena in Italy to oversee the transformation with the assistance of Maserati Centro Stile. It was also Beckham’s chance to experience a £200,000 3-litre engined 621bhp MC20 supercar for the first time himself. A teaser if you like for what was to come.

Inside, black Alcantara seats enjoy pink contrast stitching in as subtle a way that pink and black can hope to ever coexist together. A ‘For David’ nameplate sits within the central tunnel. For a classy company such as Maserati, setting out a supercar with shades of pink has to be a carefully thought-out affair; the last thing Maserati or Fuoriserie want to be accused of is being gaudy or uncouth. Although they needn’t have worried, as the final result really works – even down to the pink Brembo brake callipers.

The MC20 has a forged alloy chassis that has been developed with the aid of Italian race car manufacturer Dallara. The chassis incorporates aluminium subframes and features multi-link suspension for both front and rear. With this, Maserati has endeavoured to produce a supercar capable of comfortable pleasant daily driving as well as holding its own on the occasional track day – and it all starts with the chassis.

The Maserati Nettuno engine goes some way to handling daily driver options without increasing fatigue as well. Surprisingly quiet, the 3-litre engine will produce a top speed of 203mph and offer up a mere 2.9 seconds to achieve 62mph from zero.

As well as surprisingly subtle pink and black Alcantara seating, the MM20 features a motorised digital rear-view mirror. This basically means it uses similar technology that the majority of modern digital SLR cameras now use, giving a digital view (through the camera’s viewfinder) as opposed to the long-standing traditional optical view. Equally, like some high-end cameras, you can switch the digital display off and use good old traditional methods.

The big question is, what does self-confessed petrolhead David Beckham think of his new MC20 Fuoriserie Edition? “It has been incredible to collaborate with the Maserati team and designers” he says, “it’s a joy to be behind the wheel.”
