Ferrari has done it again; another classic sleek design in a very limited edition of one – something that we can all drool over, but very few will ever likely own. The Ferrari SP48 Unica is a one-off two-seater sports berlinetta (sports coupé) designed for a client brief. It doesn’t get any more limited or exclusive than the Ferrari Special Projects One-Off series, which is, simply put, a series of cars crafted to an individual client specification. This one-off V8 berlinetta oozes class, encased in an iridescent red-orange metallic paint; it’s not quite burnt orange and not quite bronze sitting somewhere perfectly in between.

Powered by the Ferrari 3.9-litre F8 Tributo turbocharged engine, the SP48 Unica has an exclusive bespoke body. Ferrari hasn’t revealed the SP48 Unica’s full specs, but the engine, unless tweaked, will be putting out 770Nm torque and a whopping 710bhp, controlled by a 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox. It will take this lucky owner just 2.9 seconds or thereabouts to hit 62mph from zero if the Tributo is anything to go by, and achieving 124mph in just 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 211mph.

The SP48 Unica has been designed under the guidance of Flavio Manzoni, the Chief Design Officer at the Ferrari Styling Centre, and is based on the F8 Tributo platform. Brake air intakes have been moved and the headlights and front grille have been restyled, it all goes towards giving the SP48 Unica an aggressive low-profile look from the front.

According to Ferrari the 3D design aspect of this car is an ‘extensive use of procedural-parametric modelling techniques and 3D prototyping’ whatever that means, but the result is to create a very striking cubic graphic grille design that seems to blend with the car itself. The car’s graphics echo this and the effect is of a pixelated blend from black to the orange body. The SP48 Unica features a Ferrari thermal-fluid-dynamic design, which guarantees all cooling requirements for such a powerful car are met in the redesigned aerodynamic body. Especially notable are those air intakes, which now sit in the front bumper and below the rear spoiler. Wheels compliment the sharp graphics too, with an excellent unique angular design, bespoke of course.

Inside, the exterior graphic approach of the supercar is continued, with laser perforated Alcantara seats and cabin trim. There are splashes of red-orange amongst the black too and a smattering of matte carbon fibre, further connecting the inside to the outside.

Clearly, Ferrari’s Special Projects One-Off series of vehicles are beautifully designed and put together high-end vehicles. They are as tasteful as you can get for such a supercar, but of course, that will always come down to who the car is created for. In any case, the Ferrari SP48 Unica is another fine car worthy of paying some attention to.
