Of course, the traditional shape is a throwback to times past, but it is also much loved by enthusiasts who eye any detour from the traditional square lines with suspicion.So we live in a world where custom tuning houses add power to aerodynamic sports cars with wind tunnel enhanced flowing bodywork, and equally – absurdly some might argue – the same is done to sit-up-and-beg off-roaders with the aerodynamic qualities of a rock. Anyway, here’s the Posaidon 927bhp Mercedes-AMG G63.The basics of the G-Wagen as we know it ran from 1979 until 2018 before the second generation appeared. This newly introduced Mercedes G63 AMG is not exactly a powerless slouch in need of upgrading off the shelf either, with a 4-litre V8 engine and 577bhp leaving you possibly wondering what more it could need. The ‘standard’ model has a top speed of 149mph and a 0-62mph of just 4.5 seconds. So how on earth can German aftermarket specialist tweaker Posaidon stamp its mark on something already this impressive out of the box?Naturally, it doesn’t actually need anything added, but that would remove half the fun of it all. With the addition of two larger turbochargers, ported cylinder heads, a new exhaust and upgraded valve seats, Posaidon has pushed the limits and given us a Mercedes G63 with 927bhp and 943lb ft torque.Posaidon say they have also fine-tuned the transmission and added an additional water/methanol tank in the boot to supply the injection system for additional boost pressure. The result of this is a G-Wagen that has a top speed of 174mph (electronically limited) and a 0-62mph of just 3.6 seconds. Not bad for a near 2-tonne vehicle. Carbon-ceramic brakes attempt to stop the beast, and additions like those bull-bars hint at the aggressive power hidden under the bonnet.For a vehicle that already cost around £145,000, you can imagine that Posaidon’s mods increase that basic price somewhat – in fact by a further £50,000. As you would expect at such a cost, you do get a fair few quality add-on options too, like a carbon-fibre bonnet with vents and a variety of colour options.To answer my earlier rhetorical question, Posaidon has most certainly stamped its mark on the Mercedes-AMG G63, that’s for sure – and that’s not just the brand’s distinctive ‘Poseidon fork’ badging."},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
