The Tesla Model 3 has gotten off to a great start and is in a league of its own
The difference between Tesla and any other manufacturer that produces electric cars is that Tesla has a giant army of passionate fans. The kind of fans that will preorder the car before it’s even been reviewed. This kind of undying passion is exactly why the Model 3 is already the market leader in Europe for pure electric cars.
The Model 3 has just been released and is already dominating
On Black Friday, eager customers wait outside of a shop and as soon as the doors open, they flood in like a stampede of wild wildebeest. A similar effect was seen when the Model 3 finally became available for purchase in certain European countries this year.
Although it’s still not available in many European countries such as the UK, the Model 3 has already become Europe’s best-selling pure electric vehicle for last month (February) which was also the cars first full month on the market. Straight out of the gate it’s overtaken the most popular EVs such as the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe. Tesla sold 3,657 Model 3s in Europe last month and although that doesn’t sound like a huge number, it’s placed it at the top of the charts!
It’s not just the best-selling EV…
The Model 3 isn’t only the best-selling EV of February, it’s also the top-selling premium midsize saloon in Europe. The popular EV has managed to not only outsell all other electric cars, it’s also outsold all other cars in its class such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C Class, Audi A4, Jaguar XE and so on.
Felipe Munoz, JATO’s global analyst, commented:
“As we’re seeing in the US, Tesla is also shaking up the European market. Its long-lasting impact will depend on how quickly the German premium makers, Volvo and JLR react to the arrival of the Model 3 to Europe and how quickly they can bring in their own midsize electric cars,”
“The performance of the Model 3 is remarkable, given we normally don’t see this kind of result until four or five months after a new car has hit the roads.”
Not only is Tesla’s Model 3 going against the grain by selling like hotcakes, but it’s also unusual that most of the sales are private sales. Normally most new vehicle purchases are made up of business/fleet registrations, yet the Model 3 is mainly being bought by eager and passionate individuals. Given that it normally takes up to 5 months for car sales to perform like this, we can assume that Tesla’s Model 3 is in very high demand.
Tesla fans are still buying the Model 3, despite its blunders
The Model 3 has had many criticisms. There were many complaints regarding build quality that included poor build quality, paint scratches and blemishes from the factory, uneven and asymmetrical panel gaps and so on.
To cut costs, Tesla have also done away with the digital gauge cluster found in their other models and put everything on a single centre-console screen. It’s a slightly controversial move considering drivers have to look at their centre console for essential information that would normally be found through the steering wheel. Said screen is also smaller than other Tesla screens and in a horizontal orientation, rather than vertical.
Despite various criticisms of this new and unconventional EV, Tesla fans are as passionate and loyal as ever. Tesla are proving to be true market disruptors, not just in the US but also closer to home as well! Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
