Skoda celebrates production of 22 millionth vehicle

Czech car manufacturer Skoda has revealed its delight after it achieved a production milestone with the creation of its 22 millionth vehicle.

The car in question was a Skoda Kodiaq GT in Velvet Red which rolled off the production line at the SAIC Volkswagen plant in Changsha, China on April 11th.

Skoda’s pride in reaching the landmark figure was highlighted by the company’s decision to showcase the vehicle at a special event it held ahead of Auto Shanghai and the production milestone was linked to the company’s successful growth strategy.

This was highlighted by Skoda Auto CEO Bernhard Maier’s comment that it has sold more than a quarter of all the vehicles produced in the company’s 124-year history in the last five years alone.

He added: “The passing of the 22-million mark is yet another milestone that motivates us to consistently continue this growth. We will be doing this by launching more than 30 new models in the markets by the end of 2022 as part of our product campaign.”

Skoda vehicles are produced at plants across the globe, with the brand investing more than 300 billion CZK in processes and factories in the Czech Republic alone since 1991.

The company’s links to China go all of the way back to 1936, when the brand had five sales agencies in the country.

News of the production milestone has come as the brand also confirmed it delivered more than 307,000 vehicles worldwide in the first three months of 2019. A total of 114,200 vehicles were delivered in March alone.
