SEAT marks 50th anniversary of classic models

Seat took a step back in time earlier this month by showcasing two of its most famous classic models at the Techno-Classica show for vintage and prestige vehicles held in Germany.

The Spanish car manufacturer marked the 50th anniversary of its 1430 model at the event in Essen by showcasing both a first series saloon and a more powerful estate version of the car.

A 124 derivative, the 1430 is considered one of the most complete Spanish saloon cars of its time and was also successful in the field of motorsport. Powerful versions performed well in the world of rally, picking up four Spanish championships in the mid-1970s.

It is also five decades since the launch of the 850 Sport Spider – the only convertible ever produced by Seat – and that vehicle was also on show at the exhibition.

The two-seater convertible was created by the renowned designer Bertone and only 1,746 examples were built before production came to an end in 1972. The car featured a 903cc, 52PS petrol engine later used in the 850 Sport Coupe version, with the technology laying the groundwork for a number of future Seat models.

While the Techno-Classica show has given Seat a chance to glimpse back into its past, the company has also recently been working hard on its future with the launch of the brand new flagship model, the Tarraco.

Designed in Spain and then built in Germany, the seven-seater vehicle is Seat’s biggest SUV and is a core part of investment into the brand’s future.
