Behold! The Ringbrothers Valkyrja – a custom 890hp Chevrolet Camaro.
We’ve covered Ringbrothers’ fine work before; an eye for the finest details and retro nostalgia has earned Jim and Mike Ring the reputation of turning out some fine classic cars yet with all mod cons built for the modern world. The Ringbrothers Chevrolet Camaro Valkyrja is just such a car – delicately put together to remain subtle and easy on the eye, yet purposeful and impressive.
The Valkyrja was a big hit at the 2019 SEMA Car Show, where the classic muscle car turned heads thanks to the fine detail and hours of effort that Ringbrothers always put into their resto-mods; they certainly go the extra mile. Such cars thrive on their power, and the Valkyrja doesn’t let anyone down in this department. Ringbrothers used a Wegner Motorsports LS 3 416-cubic-inch plus 2.9-litre turbocharger from Whipple. A 6-speed manual Tremec gearbox and Baer 6S 6-piston brakes front and rear share the responsibility of keeping the 890hp monster under control. A Flowmaster Super 44 stainless-steel exhaust with custom headers releases all that built up tension and tunes the sound.
Mike Ring describes the final result as a combination of style and performance; a car with classic looks but with modern technology and materials. 3D scanning aided the brothers in being able to successfully produce custom parts that adhere to the classic look and feel of the Valkyrja. The bonnet is carbon-fibre, while other body parts are CNC-machined or 3D printed. Detroit Speed Engineering give the vehicle an aggressive stance thanks to their suspension expertise. This production technique will also allow them to replicate and sell Valkyrja-style custom body parts on their website too.
The Ring brothers have been involved in working on cars since they were 10 and 11 years old, so it’s no wonder that they turn out such impressive vehicles. Mike says they try to make each vehicle that they produce better than the last one. An ethos that certainly keeps the standard extremely high.
The Valkyrja sits on custom retro-inspired HRE alloy wheels, 19-inch by 11-inch up front and 20-inch by 12.5-inch at the rear. These are shed in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 295x35x19 up front, and 345x30x20 at the rear, and that khaki, almost army-like paint job is BASF Glasurit Waterbone TOTOPKG Green.
The Valkyrja exists solely due to a customer from Belgium – no doubt impressed by the brothers’ previous custom Camaro work – commissioning the brothers to produce the car. He must be proud too to know that the muscle car has now won various awards, including the SEMA show Battle of the Builders, a competition that simply shines a spotlight on the talents and craftsmanship of those that put together the custom cars on display. No mean feat at such a show.
