Porsche has revealed all the details on its new Macan S, which is available now, priced from £48,750.
The souped-up compact SUV uses a new turbocharged three-litre V6 engine that cranks out 349bhp and 480Nm of torque. That’s an uplift of 14bhp and 20Nm on the model it replaces.
That extra power helps shave a tenth of a second off the benchmark sprint, with the Macan S now hitting 62mph from rest in 5.1 seconds with a 156mph top speed, when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package.
Other key changes refer to the chassis, which has been upgraded with lightened spring forks, staggered tyre widths, new brakes, updated anti-roll bars, new height-adjustable air suspension and Porsche’s active damper control system.
Brake stuff
Porsche says that a lot of work has gone into the brakes of the refreshed Macan, and that the driver will notice this most of all in the form of a changed pedal feel.
The pedal in question weighs around 300 grams less than the previous steel part, and acts on the brake master cylinder via a shortened lever arm.
‘So what?’ you may well say, but what you should be saying is ‘so what a more immediate brake response it now has’ – that’s the good stuff right there amirite?!
This sharper braking is aided by larger front brake discs, with a 10mm increase to disc diameter (now 360mm), and an extra 2mm disc thickness (now 36mm).
The Macan S comes as standard with LED headlights, a 10.9-inch infotainment system and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Buyers can choose to bolster their Macan S by including a sports steering wheel (pinched straight out of the 911), traffic jam assist, a heated front windscreen and an ioniser and particulate filter that claims to be able to improve air quality inside the cabin.
