This open-top racing championship for amateurs is, pound for pound, one of the fastest series in the UK

Radical Sportscars announces the return of its SR1 Cup for 2021. Welcoming amateurs and experienced racers alike, the 2021 Radical SR1 Cup calendar has been announced with comprehensive factory support available for every step of the race journey.

Marking its 9th season, the SR1 Cup is an owner-driven racing series featuring small LMP-styled race cars with RPE-Suzuki four-cylinder engines with displacements of around 1300cc. Producing around 182hp, the little cars are still very capable thanks to their lightweight and aerodynamics, capable of 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds and capable of 2.3 gs of lateral acceleration.

These open-top SR1s are priced at £44,500 excluding VAT making them very accessible in the world of motorsport and they’re plenty fast as Radical Sportscars likes to point out it’s ‘pound for pound the fastest amateur race series in the UK’.

Radical Sportscars also host eight other racing series, with SR1 being the entry point in the hierarchy. Each series featuring more powerful cars, with the next step being SR3, featuring marginally more powerful 1500cc machines. At the top of the ladder, we have Radial Sportscars’ RXC V8 series featuring V8 closed cockpit cars reaching much higher speeds of around 180mph.

The SR1 series is a great opportunity for enthusiastic club racers to take the next step up in their racing career, providing the chance to race in an LMP style car that was built from the ground up for the series. Capable of lap times faster than that of a GT4 car that costs up to four times as much, it’s a popular choice for ambitious drivers with a wide range of experience.

Furthermore, competitors have the chance to race their SR1 on the famous Spa Francorchamps track in Belgium, as part of the Radical Festival.
