The Pininfarina Battista EV supercar makes its debut

The latest hypercar to grace our motor-obsessed world doesn’t require petrol or diesel and doesn’t pollute the air with CO2 or NOx. That’s because this ridiculously fast Italian-built performance car runs on electricity, just like your humble Nissan Leaf or golf cart.

The most powerful car to be designed and made in Italy

To set the tone for this engineering achievement, let’s go over a few numbers. Firstly, this electric hypercar produces around 1,900 hp. That’s 1,100 more horsepower than you would find in the McLaren Senna, 937 more than a LaFerrari and 421 more than the Bugatti Chiron.

As you would expect with that kind of power, the acceleration of the Battista is pretty quick. Pininfarina are claiming a 0-62 mph sprint time of under 2 seconds, but will not give a specific time so it’s probably somewhere around 1.90-1.99 seconds. That’s about as fast as today’s current Formula 1 cars. The difference being that F1 cars weigh about as much as your holiday suitcase and the Battista weighs somewhere around 2 tonnes, which is very heavy for a hypercar.

Prepare for London’s low emission zone with a £1.7 million hypercar

The first deliveries of this astounding Italian machine will commence towards the end of 2020, just months before London’s ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) will extend to the whole of Greater London in 2021.

It’s not just fast, it’s luxurious and comfortable (but probably not in the sense of soft suspension). The Battista has a claimed range of around 300 miles on a single charge and the 120 kWh battery can charge up to 80% in 40 minutes with the appropriate charger.

Only 150 will be produced and over half are already spoken for, with Nico Rosberg being one of those existing orders.

0-182 mph in less than 12 seconds. Electrifying!

Thanks to the two powerful 450 kW rear motors and the 250 kW front motors, this 4WD electric supercar can reach 182 mph faster than a Toyota Aygo can reach 60mph. The top speed of the Battista is a respectable 217 mph.

Pininfarina hope to make EVs cool

Michael Perschke, CEO of Pininfarina, had this to say: “The Battista is a truly beautiful, guilt-free hypercar – the first EV to really fall in love with – because electricity enables us to develop it with zero emissions and as the most powerful car that will have ever been designed and built in Italy.”

“As London joins many cities in moving towards a more sustainable future, we hope that the Battista also inspires a generation to consider electric cars, not just through the benefits of zero emissions, but also through the beauty and the performance that electrification offers.”

Pininfarina hopes to have their car on the bedroom walls of young car enthusiasts and to inspire future generations to have a passion for electric cars. A noble cause indeed.
