There is also apetrol variant which uses a PureTech 130 EAT8 S&S petrol engine.Like many newly released fastbacks, there is an emphasis on sleek and efficient engineeringthat stands out without abandoning the brand’s existing design philosophy. The sky-bluegrille blends smoothly into the front end, minimising any disturbances in the flow of thevehicle and preserving its streamlined aesthetic. This distinctive fastback silhouette is said toimprove aerodynamic efficiency. Peugeot states that the unexpected rear bumper gives theprofile a ‘strong look’, but it’s hard to look beyond this being a case of the manufacturertrying to justify an arguably disruptive design choice. The front boasts the ‘408’ branding above Peugeot’s new emblem, with the fang and claw\u0002shaped lights sitting menacingly on the vehicle’s front and back respectively, reminding usthat while it may look different, the 408 is still all PeugeotThe 408 will come equipped with the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit (which we have seen on severalother models, namely the 208, 3008 and 5008). The i-Cockpit’s core feature is the compactsteering wheel, which aims to improve handling by providing a closer, more relaxed steeringexperience. The 408’s 6-camera, 9-radar driver assistance systems are also present as ameans of ensuring the driver feels safe and in control. The systems include a variety offunctions, from Adaptive Cruise Control and a Rear Traffic Alert to Night Vision and blind\u0002spot monitoring up to 75 metres. The vehicle comes in at a length of 4900mm and a height of 1480mm, with a 2790mmwheelbase. It has 188mm of rear legroom and a boot ranging between 470 and 540 litres(depending on the variant), which can be increased by folding the rear seats.Production for the European market will begin in Mulhouse, France.
