The second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship is coming to the UK soon, and with it there will be some Peugeot 208s competing for victory.
Team Peugeot-Hansen will be heading to the UK home of Rallycross, Lydden Hill Race Circuit, following a great start to the season in Portugal earlier this month. Double European champion Timur Timerzyanov and his team mate Timmy Hansen both managed to set competitive times in the Peugeot 208 WRX. This was despite the fact that the car project was completed late.
Timerzyanov made it to the top of the World RX leaderboard in Portugal for intermediate classification. This was after he set the fastest time in both of the first two heats. Speaking about the new Peugeot 208, he believes that the team can make good progress with the car.
With both drivers having proven to be fast on the Lydden Hill track last season, Hansen believes that driving style and the new supercar will suit the track well.
He said: “Lydden Hill is a circuit that suits me and my driving style, it’s about high speed, big commitment fast corners and I’m very comfortable with that,”
“In Portugal, the 208 felt great on those types of corners; you can push hard on the entry and still get a good exit, so it should be a good match for Lydden Hill.”
He said that he was surprised at how good it felt to drive the new 208, having gone into the race in Portugal unsure of what to expect from it.
Timerzyanov noted how last year at Lydden Hill he was unfortunate enough to have got a puncture during the final, which meant that he had to miss out on the result that he wanted. He hopes to settle his demons with the circuit with the new car this year.
In terms of the whole 208 WRX package, Timerzyanov says that although improvements can be made the team is already at a higher level than what was expected.
