Porsche has just announced not one, but two new powerful performance cars are now available for order in the UK and Ireland.
The manufacturer has proudly proclaimed the Porsche Boxster GTS and the Porsche Cayman GTS will be making their way to UK roads in May this year.
Both are sure to offer the luxury and drive quality we so associate with the German manufacturer, but let’s take a closer look at what each model has in store.
Porsche Boxster GTS
It’s now almost 20 years since the first Porsche Boxster emerged in a car showroom and its appeal is still as strong as it has ever been.
The Boxster is the pinnacle of roadster design and the new GTS model is set to provide drivers with an even greater driving sensation.
It has been fitted with an optimised version of the existing 3.4-litre engine, specially tuned in order to produce an extra 15hp. Every little helps.
Now, the latest Boxster is able to develop 330hp of power, with torque standing at 370Nm – a 10Nm increase on the standard model.
When utilising the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, the optional Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed double-clutch transmission and the Launch Control function, the Boxster can sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds. This marks a 0.3 second increase on the Boxster S PDK.
When twinned with the standard six-speed transmission, the car is able to hit an incredible top speed of 174mph.
This doesn’t mean that Porsche has neglected the environment. On the contrary. It is in fact the first mid-engined roadster from Porsche that is certified to the Euro 6 emissions standard.
Overall fuel consumption, with the PDK system, is 34.4mpg, while the standard manual transmission offers 31.4mpg.
It comes with standard equipment such as black finish 20-inch Carrera S Alloy wheels, black finish Bi-Xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Lighting System, leather seats and a seven-inch touch-screen universal audio interface with MP3 connectivity.
Porsche Cayman GTS
The Cayman GTS has become the most powerful and fastest edition of the mid-engined coupe from Porsche.
That’s thanks to the 3.4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine that has been fine tuned to deliver 340hp and 380Nm.
Again, it features the PDK system and Launch Control, much like the Boxster, meaning it can go from 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds.
When connected to the standard six-speed manual transmission, the car can power up to 177mph.
It marks another first for Porsche, becoming the only mid-engined coupe from the manufacturer to achieve the Euro 6 emissions standard, as fuel consumption with PDK stands at 34.4mpg combined. This stands at 31.4mpg with manual transmission.
Since 2005, the Cayman has been known as a ‘driver’s car’. The GTS version is set to further enhance this reputation while delivering even more performance dynamics, with a balanced and precise ride.
It will be available with the same standard equipment as the Boxster, with air conditioning, automatic headlight activation and auto stop-start function all included in this package.
