Nissan is readying itself to debut its supercool new prototype and with a name that boasts superhero credentials, we’re very excited about checking out the new high-performance BladeGlider.

An advanced concept car with a full-electric battery powertrain, which Nissan claims will deliver stunning performance with a 0-62 mph sprint of under five seconds and handling that is second to none. Due to power-delivery coming from an electric engine, the BladeGlider is a zero-emissions runaround that makes it something of a revolution in the sportscar market.

The BladeGlider has been developed from concept cars that were originally shown at the Tokyo Auto Show back in 2013 and the prototype came to Rio de Janeiro yesterday (4th August). Aiming to show off the best in Intelligent Mobility, the cars are Nissan’s way of showcasing some seriously futuristic technologies that are available in the here and now.

Speaking on the BladeGlider – otherwise known as a car even Marty McFly couldn’t dream of – Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive office for Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, said: “These prototypes epitomise Nissan’s drive to expand its Intelligent Mobility strategy, where driving pleasure combines with environmental responsibility.”

The BladeGlider prototypes form part of Nissan’s pioneering development of zero-emissions vehicles. But, it isn’t just a lack of CO2 that the brand is working on, as it’s also keen on working on automotive technologies to aid driver safety and enjoyment, such as autonomous driving systems.

Connectivity is a big part of Nissan’s car developments too, so we’re expecting to see a lot of kit on the BladeGlider when it’s ready to go.

The models that are out for demonstration have advanced chassis configuration and a narrow front track and wider rear track that boosts aerodynamic efficiency. This makes the car much more stable too, which is handy when you’re driving at speed.

A sense of fun and drama is alive in the BladeGlider, thanks to the high-waisted, rear-hinged di-hedral doors that swing open.

You’ll be able to choose two colours for the car when it’s released too, pick from either Cyber Green or Stealth Orange. A stealthy BladeGlider? I never!
