Jaguar’s I-Pace concept – the company’s first electric vehicle – has been spotted on the streets of London ahead of a full reveal later in the year.

The company is hoping to build on the success of its F-Pace, adding some green credentials to what has been a very successful entry into the high-end SUV market for the brand.

The I-Pace you may have caught a glimpse of if you were in the vicinity of London’s Olympic Park in recent days is still a concept for now, so there may be some design tweaks before the finished version is unveiled in late 2017.

Even though there may be some design tweaks it sounds like many of the technical specs are already a done deal. The model will feature a 90kWh battery that offers a range of more than 500km (310 miles) – although it’s likely a fairly conservative driving style will be required to achieve that.

Recharging to 80 per cent capacity can be done in as little as 90 minutes, something owners keen to demonstrate the I-Pace’s performance – 0-60mph in approximately four seconds – may find themselves doing pretty frequently.

‘the future of motoring has arrived’

Director of design at Jaguar Ian Callum said the company has had some “fantastic” feedback on the I-Pace Concept.

“It has surprised people and the enthusiasm for our first electric vehicle has been beyond all my expectations,” he remarked, adding the real-world tests on the streets of London has been “really important” as the design team continues to make tweaks.

“The I-Pace Concept represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. For me, the future of motoring has arrived,” he noted.

Although we will see the finished version later this year, it will be a few months longer before the finished version is on the road, with deliveries likely to start in the second half of 2018.
