BMW has revealed a new high-performance four-door coupe at the Geneva Motor Show and it has been arguably this year’s show-stealing attraction.

The M8 Gran Coupe Concept gives a big hint as to what to expect from the production car when it hit showrooms before the end of 2019. It will eventually be joined by more reserved ‘mainstream’ 8 Series Gran Coupes variants.

Visually, the front-end of the M8 Gran Coupe is heavily influenced by the recently revealed 8 Series, but it possesses more aggression whilst integrating key styling features, such as a double-kidney grille with gold-coloured surround to add an air of exclusivity.

At the rear, horizontal lines help the area below the rear spoiler catch more light. Slim, sculpted rear lights at the outer edges embellish the car’s wide stance, while the familiar M twin exhaust tailpipes leave no doubt to the car’s vicious promise.

Unfortunately, we can’t tell you anything in regards to performance because BMW hasn’t released any technical details.

However, it is expected that the production M8 Gran Coupe will have a lot in common with the recently launched M5. That means it could use the same 592bhp twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine, linked to an eight-speed auto gearbox with four-wheel drive.

Commenting after the car’s Geneva debut, senior vice president of BMW Group Design Adrian van Hooydonk said this concept alludes to greater things down the line.

“The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe offers a look ahead to the most exotic and alluring variant of the new BMW 8 Series,” he commented.

Meanwhile, another high-up BMW exec added that the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe “is designed to stir things up, to polarise – it should move you emotionally”.
