Audi has released the first S model for its Q7 lineup in the form of the SQ7, which houses electric technology that marks a world-first for any production car. The Audi SQ7 features an electrically-powered compressor, which combines with turbocharging technology to supplement a maximum output of 429bhp and 900Nm of torque from the V8 BiTDI engine that powers the model.

Although it’s not available to buy yet, with this new unit, the model is the most powerful diesel SUV on the market. In terms of its performance figures, the car has a limited top speed of 155mph and does the standard 0-62mph sprint in 4.8 seconds.

Despite boasting impressive speed and power, the SQ7 is also surprisingly efficient, as its TDI engine claims a return of 38.2mpg combined and emits 194g/km of CO2. The Audi SQ7 also benefits from another new improvement in dynamics from the German manufacturer – an electromechanical active roll stabilisation for reduced body roll.

According to Dr Stefan Knirsch, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG for technical development, as the SQ5 had been successfully launched, the brand were eager to work on the concept of an S-model with a diesel engine to the Q7 model.

Further highlights of the 4.0-litre TDI in the SQ7 include a redesigned eight-speed tiptronic transmission that allows for coasting at idle when driving at high speeds. Adding to the car’s efficiency is its lightweight construction throughout the model, including its suspension, the links of which are mostly made of aluminium.

Some specifications for the SQ7 encompass 20-inch wheels and an optional driving dynamics package, which comprises three technology modules: sport differential, electromechanical active roll stabilisation and all-wheel steering.
