When it comes to small executive cars with mammoth family appeal, you’d have to go some way before bettering the Audi A4.
Now in its fifth and arguably best iteration, the A4 has been a humongous sales hit for Audi for some time.
Its stunning balance of performance, practicality and efficiency is rarely outdone and the premium badge on its nose is the cherry on the cake.
Now the A4’s appeal is about to enjoy a hefty boost, with the announcement of a new range-topping Black Edition trim level.
Over the decades, everything from rock and roll to fashion has demonstrated that you can’t get cooler than black and that’s essentially the approach Audi has taken with the A4, noiring several key elements to achieve an infinitely cool look.
The trim is available on both the saloon and Avant estate bodystyles and adds 19-inch five-arm alloy wheels with a matte titanium finish and titanium black styling on the mirror housings, singleframe grille, window surrounds, side skirts, air intakes and, for saloon models, the rear spoiler.
Avant estate models get black roof rails, while both feature privacy glass for rear passengers.
Inside, the Black Edition A4 features a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel and piano black inlays, while acoustic front-side window glass further refines the already remarkably hushed A4 cabin.
The Black Edition trim is available across the A4’s engine range, from the entry-point 1.4-litre TFSI, priced at £32,350 on-the-road (or £33,750 for the estate), all the way to the monstrous 3.0-litre V6 diesel, costing £42,950/£44,350.
There are also two-litre petrol and diesel units sandwiched in the engine range, with transmissions comprising a mix of six-speed manual and seven and eight-speed automatic gearboxes.
Audi says that more than half of customers of the previous gen A4 opted for the Black Edition trim and considering the success of the current model, the brand should expect just as much interest this time too.
The Black Edition A4 is available to order now.
