We’ve ranked the supercars of the last 10 years, based purely on facts

It’s that time to rank supercars based on poorly-formed opinions and ‘how cool it looks’ – you know, scientific stuff.

Tier lists are a great way of ranking things, we’ve found. This kind of tier ranking can be applied to anything (and often is) – from chocolate bars to film franchises to Smash Bros characters to baby names – essentially everything can be sorted into place with a good tier list. It’s what all of the world-leading market analysts and data scientists use.

These cars were crafted by the powers that be in the universe. They are a product of the stars aligning perfectly and the combined luck of all those that worked on them being used up completely. For instance, the McLaren P1 put the Woking-based marque back on the map. It was the 21st century’s answer to the McLaren F1 and was also the world’s first hybrid supercar. The P1 was so good, McLaren has only released inferior versions of the car since.

The Koenigsegg Gemera has a 3-cyl engine making 600hp and four seats, the DBS Superleggera is the most beautiful modern Aston, the LFA is the greatest Japanese supercar with a sound that will make you cry and the SLS AMG is rare and the Black Series is even rarer, with both being a perfect modern homage to the old legendary 300SL Gullwing.

These cars are simply iconic and nearly faultless, either looking better than anything else at the time or being faster than anything else at the time.

Next up, the A Tier

These cars are excellent but not quite ‘S Tier’ status. Take the Porsche 918 Spyder, for instance. On paper, it’s one of the most special cars out there, still being the fastest production car in the world in terms of acceleration according to Wikipedia and also just being an incredible engineering feat, with one of the fastest recorded Nurburgring times as well. That being said, it just lacks flare. It looks meek and mild-mannered and when people talk about supercars, they often forget this car even exists.

These cars are certainly top-tier material but they just lack the ability to provoke as much emotion as the cars above them.

B Tier cars. Cool but not cool enough.

The Aventador SVJ is, in fact, an absolute beast. However, there are more people that adore it aged under 15-years-old than there are older than 15. It’s great, it currently holds the record for fastest Nurburgring lap time in its class but it’s just not grown up enough to be as cool as the big guns.

The Ford GT, again, is very cool but you could slap a Ford badge on the Bugatti Chiron and it would instantly bump it down a tier. Sorry. And as for the Ferrari 458, it’s almost nondescript. It’s respected and has a whole lot of prestige behind it but at the end of the day, along with the 488, it’s just the Ferrari of the last 10 years.

C Tier supercars. Meh.

The Honda NSX is like the Toyota Prius of supercars. It’s too sensible and unexciting and worst of all, it costs more than some cars that are twice as cool as it. The McLaren Senna, while being a jet-fuelled hypercar, is probably the ugliest McLaren around. There’s no denying that the Senna is an iconic car and that could partly be due to how strange it looks.

The Porsche GT3 RS couldn’t really be placed any higher, I’m afraid, due to the fact it’s just a tuned 911 and the Aston Martin Vantage is kind of a disappointment for the ‘Vantage’ name. It’s a baby Aston that’s about as big as an Audi TT and in fact, the Vantage doesn’t even qualify as a supercar to a lot of people.

Bottom of the list D Tier cars

First up, the SSC Tuatara has been put on the naughty step for faking its claim for fastest top speed. They fooled us all and it was all but confirmed to be the new, official, fastest car in the world. A few weeks pass and what do we find out? That they faked it with dodgy recording equipment! The car is spoiled.

The Lykan HyperSport is the first Arab supercar and, well… it could have been better. Genuinely, it looks like a toy and is about as overstyled as the current Honda Civic Type R. To add fuel to the fire, they decided to include an option for diamonds…because why not?

Lastly, the BMW i8, a sports car that pretends to be a supercar. BMW knew exactly what kind of trouble they would be causing in online forums when they made a hybrid sports car with fake engine noise that was styled like a supercar. Honestly, is the i8 just one big prank? An excellent sports car but a terrible supercar.
