When you think of supercars, ‘family-friendly’ doesn’t really come to mind…or does it? It seems there is a growing trend among supercar manufacturers to dip their toe into the world of luxury SUV’s and who can blame them? 4x4s are more popular than ever and if you can get the balance between speed and practicality right then you are onto a winner.

Let’s take a look at some of the best examples of supercar, SUV combinations of the present and future…

Ok, so this isn’t strictly an SUV but its the next best thing and the closest we are likely to get to a ‘proper’ family car from Ferrari. The FF had a makeover and so the GTCLusso was born, boasting a top speed of 208 mph that is helped by the aerodynamic roof spoiler.

While it takes a while to get used to the steering and handling, that engine is music to anyone’s ears and makes it all worthwhile!

Maserati Levante

Maserati Levante

For their first try, Maserati have plenty to be proud of and this SUV has few rivals besides the Porsche Cayenne. The price is right and with such a lot of space, this five seater is a great family car. The brand’s signature ‘sportiness’ has not been lost as there is a super responsive Sport Mode.

You won’t find a car in this class that handles better and in general the Cayenne just oozes quality. As capable off-road as it is on the tarmac, this large SUV is fun to drive and provides another level of precision thanks to the feedback it offers through the steering. It has poise, practicality and the interior is both classy and easily roomy enough for four adults.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio

Alfa Romeo Stelvio

This is going to be Alfa Romeo’s first SUV but there are plans for a couple more in the future – clearly they have real confidence in their new range, let’s hope its justified.

This is a more compact offering with luxury and performance guaranteed. Alfa want to make it the fastest around and we have to admit its a good looking machine.

Aston Martin DBX

Aston Martin DBX

This crossover should enter production by the end of 2019 and promises to emphasise sport over utility. It came as a shock to many that Aston Martin would venture into SUV territory but from what we can see, the DBX will keep a sporty shape, with coupe styling and a high driving position that should appeal to many buyers.
