The new compact SUV was recently spotted living it up at Milan Fashion Week, as well as at the usual motor shows like Frankfurt and Geneva and, at times, it felt like the car’s bare-all reveal would never come.Finally though, the first ever X2 has made its world premiere, ahead of the car’s arrival in UK showrooms in March 2018. With the X2, BMW is primarily gunning for urban and young (or at least young-at-heart) motorists who are keen to see their personal character reflected on the road through an emotionally-engaging car.RelationsAs the name suggests, the X2 will slot below the X3 in BMW’s line of SUVs, and will use much of what lies beneath the skin of the X1 and the Mini Countryman.It will sit on BMW’s UKL2 platform – a chassis that restricts the car to four-cylinder engines, but also offers the possibility of four-wheel drive on high-end models and plug-in hybrid powertrains.EnginesIn terms of engine options from launch, buyers can choose from two diesels, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.The xDrive20d, which can produce 188bhp and 400Nm of torque, is likely to be the fleet favourite with CO2 emissions of 121-126g/km. The xDrive25d will pack more of a punch with 228bhp and 450Nm, while CO2 output climbs to 133-139g/km. This two-litre diesel will offer the best performance, promising a 0-62mph sprint of 6.7 seconds.For petrol drivers, there will also be a 228bhp front-wheel drive sDrive 20i model. Another two petrols will flesh out the range not long after launch with the addition of the entry-level 138bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol sDrive18i, and 189bhp all-wheel-drive xDrive20i.Two more diesels will also become available, namely the 148bhp sDrive18d and xDrive18d, which, with front-wheel drive, will be the most efficient X2 with CO2 emissions sinking to 119g/km.InteriorThe interior features the kind of swish design and driver-focused layout you’ll have come to expect from BMW, and equipment will be split over four trim levels: SE, Sport, M Sport and M Sport X.The most basic X2 models (SE) will come with sat-nav, dual-zone climate control and a power tailgate. Sport steps it up with sports seats and LED lights, while M Sport variants receive larger wheels and body-coloured side skirts.Finally, at the top of the range, M Sport X models feature grey design details for a more off-road biased look.The full price range hasn’t been made public yet, but BMW has confirmed that prices will start from £33,980 when the order book opens in the middle of November."},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
