Air flow into the engine compartment is controlled by an active grille shutter, a feature which amongst several others (including special A-pillar shaping and a unique \u2018air curtain\u2019), has been developed to make the X-Trail more aerodynamic.The new X-Trail is powered by Nissan\u2019s e-Power drivetrain, a system which combines a high output battery and powertrain with a petrol engine, power generator, inverter and 150kW front electric motor. This e-Power system has been specifically upgraded for European X-Trail drivers, offering a 1.5-litre Variable Compression Ratio turbo petrol engine capable of outputting a final system power of 204PS, a level up from the 1.2-litre 106hp engine seen on the Japanese iteration.To minimize the strain associated with the stop-start nature of urban driving, Nissan has devised a new system which they call \u2018e-Pedal Step\u2019. The system must initially be activated by a switch on the centre console; once initiated, drivers can accelerate and brake using only the accelerator pedal. The introduction of this feature ultimately looks to create a more intuitive experience that lessens the demand on drivers.The X-Trail also uses e-4ORCE, a new all-wheel-drive system designed to work with Nissan\u2019s electrified powertrains. Nissan aims for e-4ORCE to provide near-perfect weight balance, ultimately helping to maintain a smooth and comfortable experience in all driving conditions.Like the new Qashqai, the X-Trail is built on the Alliance CMF-C platform, something Nissan says, \u201crepresents a state-of-the-art automotive structure and technology architecture\u201d. The SUV also features an upgraded power-steering set-up, which is said to provide a better driving experience around the central part of the steering range.Two 12.3inch screens command the interior, offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality amongst a range of functional and entertainment services. One of these screens, a fully electronic multi-information TFT display, can conveniently be controlled from a dial switch on the steering wheel.Alongside this pair is a 10.8inch Head-Up Display which is said to provide the biggest-insegment image size. This HUD offers navigation information, driver assistance and road information.Riders can also make use of the NissanConnect Services mobile app to remotely control several vehicle functions, including remote lights, horn, and vehicle lock and unlock.
