The time has come for Mercedes-AMG to rethink the C63 and the next stage in its evolution is a hybrid powertrain

Now, it’s understandable that a lack of V8 may be hard for many to come to terms with, but there is still plenty to get excited about, trust us on this. Plus, the AMG engineers are said to be busy working on the best possible solution when it comes to the soundtrack, so panic not!

This new and (hopefully) improved C63 will most likely be a 6-cylinder, all-wheel drive machine with advanced hybrid technology that is rumoured to have an ‘always on strategy’ for extra thrust, on demand.

More and more performance car makers are dipping their toes in the waters of hybrid electric engines as they are no longer just a tool to reduce fuel costs.

BMW M is also moving cautiously into hybrid vehicle territory for their future M cars, so we will soon see these two rivals going head-to-head in a battle of modern electric cars that still have to blow the socks of their buyers.

Combining a hybrid powertrain with a gas-powered engine is a smart move as this increases the driving range and makes refuelling much simpler.

There’s instant power available from an electric motor too, making it an obvious choice for performance cars – it really is the best of both worlds.

It’s quite clear that emission regulations are having a direct impact on the next wave of performance cars coming our way, and many automakers are taking the greener route via hybrid and all-electric options.

This needn’t be seen as a bad thing though, in fact there are many immensely powerful cars in the world right now that embrace the power of electricity and this technology is only going to get more advanced as the years go by.

So, we may be losing the beloved naturally-aspirated V8’s of our past, but you have to admit that improved performance, fuel efficiency and lower emissions are pretty great perks of this new electrified world we will soon be living in.
