There’s a new Touareg on the way and VW has released a raft of details on its new flagship SUV ahead of its arrival this summer.
VW are touting the third-gen Touareg as its most technologically advanced model ever.
Not just the most advanced Touareg, but the brand’s claim is that no other VW in history will boast this level of technological prowess.
Introducing the ‘the Innovision Cockpit’
One key weapon in achieving this is the introduction of what VW calls ‘the Innovision Cockpit’. A fully digitalised cabin that merges a 12-inch and 15-inch display to form a digital operating, information, communication and entertainment unit. This almost entirely does away with conventional buttons or switches.
VW says the controls will be intuitive and allow drivers ‘maximum personalisation’ of their dashboard.
In short, the Innovision Cockpit is ‘the blueprint for tomorrow’s digital interior today’.
Assistance, handling and comfort systems explained
Aside from the futuristic interior, the Touareg will push things forward by integrating the widest range of assistance, handling and comfort systems ever seen in a Volkswagen. This will include features such as:
Night vision detection system
Roadwork lane assist
Front cross traffic assist
Active all-wheel steering
New roll stabilisation with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars
LED matrix headlights
Windshield head-up display with vital details like current speed projected directly onto the windscreen.
Size-wise, the new Touareg will be slightly wider and longer, resulting in a more spacious interior and a larger 810-litre boot (previously 697).
Despite the upsize, the car is actually 106kg lighter due to its mixed material construction of aluminium (48 per cent) and high-tech steels (52 per cent).
Under the bonnet, you can expect one of two V6 diesels with 227bhp and 282bhp respectively.
Certain markets have been promised a 335bhp V6 petrol and a 415bhp V8 turbodiesel, while China will get a 361bhp plug-in hybrid.
