Renault has unveiled its fifth-generation Clio, described by the marque as “more elegant and dynamic” than its predecessors.
Renault has unveiled the fifth generation of its iconic supermini, the Clio.
The French marque’s best-selling model has shifted 15 million units worldwide, enjoying increased shipments every year between 2012 and 2018. Taking all vehicle types into account, it is the second highest-selling car in Europe, behind only the Volkswagen Golf.
With an impressive lineage to draw upon, the all-new Clio retains the sweeping curves of its predecessor, but incorporates them within a package that Renault describes as “more elegant and dynamic”.
Among the most striking changes is a bigger grille and more pronounced front bumper, incorporating a large central air scope to cool the new E-Tech hybrid engine.
Despite being 14 mm shorter than the previous iteration, the new Clio boasts a more spacious interior, and also sits up to 30 mm closer to the road to improve driveability and aerodynamics.
Aerodynamic Wheel Arch Deflectors
It is also the first Clio to be fitted with front-wheel-arch air deflectors, which help to reduce fuel consumption by reducing drag and improving the aerodynamics. From an aesthetic standpoint, they also give the new model a sportier, more dynamic feel.
Inside, the car features an 9.3-inch multimedia screen – the biggest ever seen in a Renault model. Inspired by the tablet included in the Espace, it includes multimedia, navigation and infotainment features, as well as lending the interior a more contemporary feel.
“The Clio is an icon, and the latest features the very best of the previous generations,” said Laurens van den Acker, Renault’s senior vice president for corporate design.
“The exterior design of Clio IV won over our customers and continues to do so today, so we chose to keep that DNA while bringing modernity and elegance to the new model.
“The interior has undergone a true revolution, with a considerable improvement in perceived quality, greater sophistication and technology. It is the best Clio yet.”
