Moving on from the horror of the Cygnet – which we decried yesterday – Aston Martin is capable of proving that it’s still one of the most luxurious car manufacturers on the market. The high-end brand has unveiled a bespoke selection of wings for the V8 Vantage GTE models that will feature in this year’s World Endurance Championship (WEC) opening event in Silverstone from 15th to 17th April.

Every Vantage that will be taking to the track is handcrafted, as are the wings that will be adorning them, boasting of the sheer speed and performance that the brand hopes will take it to the winner’s podium this weekend.

The custom wings were commissioned by Q by Aston Martin and the collection has been crafted by a team of experts based in the famous Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. Each set of wings represents one of the rounds of this year’s championship, meaning that they are varied and every piece is unique.

At the Six Hours of Silverstone, all three V8 Vantage GTEs will be sporting a union flag piece and we have it on good authority that something particularly special has been made for the 24 Hours at Le Mans, the centrepiece of the WEC.

Having been made by a combination of state-of-the-art innovation equipment and traditional jewellery making machinery, the wings are a perfect representation of the processes that Aston Martin uses in its day-to-day creation.

Finished in painstaking detail, the badges are hand painted and then capped off with a fine grindstone to give a smooth surface. Open flames are then breathed over the badges to glaze them, they’re then polished and plated.

Such detail isn’t just reserved for the heavy duty race cars, Aston Martin customers receive the same treatment for their road cars with a massive range of unique and personalised options for their models. Dr Matthew Bennett, general manager for Q by Aston Martin, said: “I’m proud to be able to bring a bespoke touch of luxury to our Aston Martin Racing entries for the 2016 season.

“We look forward to seeing these iconic Aston Martin wings badges take to some of the world’s leading race circuits.” Indeed, we’re sure that you’ll join us in our anticipation for the Six Hours of Silverstone kicking off today (15th April), let’s hope those Aston Martin wings can fly.
