Radical Sports Cars, the creators of the big boy’s road legal, track demon go-kart, have introduced their new invention. After signing off a partnership with Ford, the guys returned to their drawing boards and have created possibly one of the best cars to come off the Radical production line – they’re called Radical for a reason.
The new RXC includes Fords new “EcoBoost” technology which is available for both road and track variations that Radical produce. A new 3.5 litre V6 engine with a twin-turbo set-up gives the RXC an astonishing 460 PS and 500ft/lb of torque! Add that to the 940kg of the total weight of the machine and the RXC is capable of doing 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds – did someone say adrenaline rush?
Ford’s new “EcoBoost” technology has won the International Engine of the Year award in 2013 and also in 2012, so partnering up with one of the longest running car manufactures seemed like a no-brainer. Both companies have been working closely together to achieve the best that the RXC has to offer without compromising things such as throttle response and fuel economy. This is made possible by the turbos being capable of spinning at 248,000 rpm, a direct fuel injection and Ti-VCT (twin independent camshaft timing). The car is built with a charge-cooled design made and built by Radical to ensure the utmost efficiency.
It has been a year since the launch of the RXC at last year’s Autosport International 2013, with just the naturally-aspirated 3.7L V6 the car was a great success amongst the customers and also the media. Radical’s DM said that the car is set to be a “game-changer” as no other car offered both the pleasures of a road car and the capabilities of a track car on such a scale. With the addition of Ford’s supporting role in the expansion of the RXC’s limits it has moved to the next level. The new turbo model has a revised interior with (optional) sound deadening, aero enhancements to improve the down-force levels even more from standard and also traction control.
“From the outset the RXC was devastatingly fast but we designed it to handle even more power” said Phil Abbott (DM), “We have had a great first year with the RXC and it has been very exciting to have been working with Ford. The upper management have given us a lot of support and have allowed us access to a huge amount of technical back up that you can only get when working with a major manufacturer. Our designers and engineers have been able to work with the key EcoBoost engineers to perfect the performance for our car. I know how good the RXC is, and I also know how capable the 3.5-litre EcoBoost motor is too. Together they make a devastatingly complete package.”
Roelant de Waard, Vice President Marketing Sales and Service of Ford of Europe said:’ Ford has a proud history of class leading performance engines and I was incredibly impressed with what Radical achieved with first the 3.7 V6. I drove the RXC at Spa last year and I can tell you to believe what the press have been saying about this car, it is packed with true race car technology, but easy to drive and its feedback and incredible cornering ability, making it truly thrilling. I can’t wait to drive this Turbo version.’
