Hyundai has revealed its latest i20 Challenger model ahead of the forthcoming World Rally Championship (WRC) season.
The car will be driven by Dani Sordo, Hayden Paddon and Thierry Neuville in all 14 rounds of the FIA WRC and it could be a possible contender for the title as Hyundai attempts to improve its motorsport record.
Since first taking place in the WRC in 2013, it has been tough for the leading carmaker to establish itself but it is hoped the latest model could compete with the more experienced teams.
The New Generation i20 WRC has been put through its paces in a year of testing and development and the car will make its racing debut in the Rallye Monte-Carlo 2016.
Team principal Michel Nandan explained: “We are entering an exciting phase in our young team’s journey, which I think will reinforce our commitment and ambition in the competitive WRC community.
“We have come a long way since our inaugural foundation year, and our performance in last season’s Championship gave us renewed optimism for the future.”
Driver Sordo added that the new car will be better and faster, with a lot of time having been spent on developing a more competitive engine and chassis.
It will be interesting to see in January whether the changes Hyundai have made will make a major difference in their podium results.
