Nowadays, however, the famously British (although now owned by a Chinese manufacturer) automotive brand has lost touch with what was once its bread and butter. Excellent sports cars.Currently offering what have been reviewed as fairly good but mediocre hatchbacks and crossovers, a new era of MG sports cars could be upon us.Marking the great return to sports cars, MG’s new ‘E-motion’ coupe has been confirmed to be put into production soon. Said to be revealed as early as this year, the E-motion is said to be an all-electric, four-wheel-drive 2+2 seater coupe.The performance of the E-motion also seems to be like a good sign that MG could potentially be making its way back into the sports car market in the best way possible, with the concept car that the E-motion will be based on having a claimed 0-62mph time of under four seconds thanks to a powerful twin-motor electric-powered setup.As we all know, one of the main concerns with electric vehicles is the range and the E-motion addresses that issue with a claimed total electric range of around 250 miles. Will this provide potential buyers with enough confidence to take the plunge and buy MG’s new sports car, after many years of dormancy in the market?A quote from MG UK’s head of product and planning, Matthew Stevens, suggests the car will be a unique offering: “The E-motion is coming. That car is real and it’s a couple of years away. We think it is in almost a unique segment, especially in Western Europe, because there’s no other car doing what it does in that class. It’ll be a real statement of intent, a ‘halo’ car.”More recently, the MG Cyberster was shown off and just like the E-motion concept car, its a stunning and modern take on the MG sports car. Unlike the E-motion, the Cyberster is a two-seat roadster and has extremely modern styling which is less likely to be transferred over to the production sports car that MG decides to make.While being mostly styled in a ultra-futuristic sense, according to an MG press release the Cyberster also has ‘styling cues from the classic MGB Roadster’.With MG keeping up with the sports car concepts and press releases, even through April 2021, could this mean that a new MG sports car is all but confirmed? And potentially, more than one sports car?Let us know what you think MG are up to, in the comments below.If you enjoyed this, you may also like: ‘5 Ugly Convertibles You Shouldn’t Buy This Summer’"},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
