BMW has just published pictures of the second-gen X4 ahead of its grand unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The reimagined mid-size SUV will build on the original with enhanced driving dynamics, standout exterior design with a strong coupé silhouette and even more refinement, along with state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and connectivity.
Two new M Performance variants will also join the range in the shape of the six-pot M40i and M40d, limboing the X4’s 0-62mph sprint to under five seconds (4.8s and 4.9s respectively), while upping top speed to 155mph. Other engines completing the launch range will be the 20d (8.0s) and 30d (5.8s).
Size change
BMW’s designers have made the X4 longer and wider than it was before, adding 81mm to its overall length and widening it by 37mm, while the wheelbase has been stretched by 54mm. Finally, its more prowling stance is emphasised by being 3mm lower.
Inside, the X4’s modern and premium-feeling cabin features top-class materials and a precise build quality with clearly arranged controls and a slightly raised seating position – typical of BMW X models – that provides a great view of the road ahead.
Kit list
As you’d expect with any BMW, there’s an impressive list of equipment that includes electric windows, multifunction buttons on the sports steering wheel, ambient cabin lighting, M Sport suspension, 18-inch light-alloy wheels (reaching up to 21-inches for extra dollar) and the high-res 10.25-inch touchscreen.
Price tag
We only have UK prices for the two of the diesels so far, with the 20d ringing in at £42,900 on the road, and £55,315 for the M40d. Price tags for the M40i and 30d are likely to be confirmed during the X4’s reveal in Geneva.
The X4 may not have actually been revealed yet, but BMW is already accepting orders for those who are uber-keen to get hold of what BMW calls ‘one of the world’s most recognisable sports activity coupés’.
