Many a petrolhead has aspirations of switching to two wheels, especially during the warmer months, and Suzuki has just swung open the door to life as a motorcyclist by lowering the entry point of its sportsbikes.

From September, Suzuki will offer the new GSX-S125 (right) from the very tempting price of £3,699, backed by the £3,999 GSX-R125 (left).

These bikes promises the best power-to-weight ratio and acceleration in the 125cc sportsbike class and despite their affordability, Suzuki insists these new GSX-R bikes have been produced with the same dedication as the rest of the GSX-R range, with over one million built over more than 30 years.

Benefits

Allow us to get technical for a second. The GSX-R125 achieves a class-leading weight of 134kg, thanks to a slim chassis design.

This low weight gives the GSX-R125 a smoother launch and make it quicker to steer than its rivals, contributing to the bike’s ease of use and fuel economy.

A new keyless ignition system makes the GSX-R a practical choice for riders, who are also presented with a full LCD dash that displays a fuel gauge, clock, and gear position indicator, alongside speedo, tacho, and odometers, and an oil change indicator light.

The GSX-R125 boasts a single-cylinder bore, which is plated with Suzuki’s own, race-proven, nickel-phosphorus-silicon-carbide. Elsewhere on the bike, fuel delivery is optimised thanks to a big-bore 32mm throttle body and advanced, six-sensor, four-hole fuel injector.

Hungry for some more technical detail? Okay, Suzuki explains that the new GSX-R sets itself apart from many of its rivals with the use of a double overhead camshaft engine design (DOHC). This improves airflow at higher engine rpm and makes for more precise valve timing. Performance is further increased by the inclusion of a large, 4.3-litre airbox.

All of this is wrapped in slim, lightweight bodywork with a stacked, full LED headlight and LED taillights.

Likewise, the new GSX-S125 benefits from the best power-to-weight ratio and acceleration performance in the naked 125cc street bike class, using the same, GSX-R developed 125cc engine.

In short, you get plenty of zip to dart off from the lights and cut through congestion.

First time

A spokesperson for Suzuki GB highlighted the GSX-R’s suitability for newcomers by saying: “The new GSX-R125 means those sportsbike fans that are getting into motorcycling for the first time can join the largest and most iconic family of sportsbikes in the world from the start of their riding careers.

“They can be sure they are riding a bike that is built to achieve the maximum performance it can within class regulations, by focussing on weight-saving and acceleration performance.

Tempted? Well, you can ride away a new GSX-R125 after slapping down a deposit of £977.86 and paying £75 per month over 48 months. GSX-S125 customers pay £69 a month for two years after a £925.29 deposit.
